What do you need to empower yourself?

What do you need to empower yourself?

What do you need to be empowered?

"Every spirit builds itself a house; and beyond its house, a world; and beyond its world, a heaven.  Know then that the world exists for you.  For you is the phenomenon perfect.  … Build, therefore, your own world."

Ralph Waldo Emerson, The Collected Works of Ralph Waldo, Alfred. R. Ferguson, Joseph Slater, Douglas Emory Wilson, Ronald A. Boaco, et al., eds. To vols. (Cambridge, Mass., and London: The Belknap Press of Harvard University Press, (1971-2013) pp. 15.

Build your own world – how do we create our own self-empowerment? We all have a vast potential that we are not using.  That's why we need friends who can encourage us, and believe in us.  So we can believe in ourselves!

This modern world doesn’t make it easy.  Everything is so consumer directed.  Everything seems to be about costs and to be driven by money.  This is not at all true.

The real world is not a consumer-driven world.  Do you think the Milky Way turns around on its beautiful wheel because someone paid it to do this?  Does the moon rise in its glory because of the Internet?

We need to create our own reality – the one that connects with that moon and the Milky Way – that is the only REAL.  After all, human beings cannot make anything real – we can only remake the matter of the universe.

So inside you is the fire of your potential.  If you don’t believe in yourself you can't feel that fire.

Dialogue with yourself can help you light that fire and develop the YOU inside.  Create the kind of blaze that is you.  It is YOUR world.  You can then create the community of friends you need.  Just don’t get swayed by the world that is motivated by greed, anger and ignorance of the true reality you have discovered.

This lifelong learning around dialogue, this living as learning will deepen your self awareness and your self-motivation.  You will become self-empowered.

When the building gets tough, reach out to your friends and help them! If you light a lantern for another, it will also brighten your own way.  Helping others is huge!

ECCN has enabled people to be self-empowered all around the world: in the U.S., China, Nigeria, Europe, Central Asia and the Middle East.

Cast a bridge connecting the opposing banks of self and other. Actions taken to illuminate the dignity of others inevitably generate the light that reveals our own highest aspects. However difficult our situation or profound our anguish, we always retain the capacity to light the flame of encouragement. This light dispels not only the darkness of others' suffering, but also that which envelops our own heart.

Resilient communities… rooted in deep trust, to contend with and heal disruption. Efforts undertaken to impose resilience from above often fail, but when those same efforts are embedded authentically in the relationships that mediate people's everyday lives, resilience can flourish.
